Congratulations Atlantic County Teamsters!

Dear AC Teamsters and families,

I want to use this opportunity to thank and congratulate all of you for making the first five months of 2008, and the first five months of my administration as temporary Trustee, so rewarding and successful.

Take a look around, everywhere there is change, and change for the better.  After reinstating membership meetings as my first act as Trustee, anywhere from 50 to 150 members are showing up each month for great food and refreshments, prizes and raffles, and, yes, also informative and interactive business meetings.  Check out the pictures above to see what a "union meeting" can be!

AC organizing is on the move.  Recent elections include the retention of over 400 Atlantic County members, the addition of more than 200 First Student school bus drivers, and recognition from the soon to open Chelsea Hotel, right on the boardwalk.  Plans are underway for additional casino organizing in traditional Teamster classifications.  Good contracts are being overwhelmingly ratified and finances are steadily improving.

Whew!  A lot has happened in a few short months, but there is a lot that remains to be done.  On June first, I will submit my personal report to President Hoffa, outlining our accomplishments and recommending what should be done next.  I want your input, so call, fax, email soon!  Together, our progress is limited only by your level of involvement.

Have a great summer and see you at our next meeting in September!

In solidarity,

Marcus King, Trustee

News Flash! Casino Win!

Friday, May 30--  In another election victory, more than twenty workers in the Convention Services department of the Taj Mahal in Atlantic City voted for Teamster representation in a National Labor Board election.  "This proves that Local 331 is a player in the Atlantic City casino industry, and we are definitely going to be coming back for more", said Marcus King, Local 331 leader after directing the successful campaign.  The Teamsters won by more than a two-to-one margin.  Local 331 has contracts with several casinos, but has identified nearly a thousand unrepresented workers in traditional Teamster classifications.  The Taj workers want fair wages for their high pressure work environment and they have the confidence that being a Teamster delivers.

Volunteers Wanted!

We are currently signing up committee volunteers to help members participate in the functioning of their local.  Contact us now if you want to help!
